Belgium, a country with three national languages, a country where it is possible for the prime minister to start singing the Marseillaise instead of the Belgian National Anthem, a country with three regional governments, which have practically as much say as much as the one national government - if there is one, because Belgium is also the record holder in being the longest without a national government. Belgians are the best at making everything as complicated as possible. For example, in our little country there are no less than 137 cities – each of which became cities for its own reason – in an area of 30 689 km2. With these facts about our little country – a place that I find annoying and after all these years still don't understand – I set out. I visited every city and in every city I captured the most banal but also most essential building documented, namely the town hall.
